Accessibility on the site

The Oxford University Museum of Natural History wants to make its website accessible to as many people people as possible. The site has been designed using cascading style sheets to improve accessibility for all.

Navigation
Navigation has been made as simple as possible, with primary navigation across the top of the page, secondary navigation on the left of the screen, and tertiary navigation (where present) as a sub-menu below each left column link. Links within the body of the main text are in bold, and 'skip-to' links at the top of the page are there to assist users with screen readers. Most links have title tags, and major pages can be navigated using access keys. At present these access keys do not work with Internet Explorer.

Images
Images on the main pages of the site marked with a [D] are linked to long description pages which explain the picture's content and context. All images on the website are tagged with 'alt' text.

PDFs (Portable document files)
We have chosen to produce most of our leaflets and activity sheets as PDFs. Most of the PDF files that are used throughout the site are 'image only' files. All pass the Adobe accessibility quick check and pass the full check if 'image only' status is taken into account. To read these files you will need Adobe Acrobat reader. Where possible we have tried to produce this content in another format.
