The architecture of the building

This photograph shows the north face of the Museum, through the leafy green branches of the forecourt.

The Museum is widely regarded as the finest neo-Gothic building in Oxford, and indeed one of the most perfect in the country.

The outside of the building was planned to be highly decorative, with every window surrounded by animal and plant forms. Unfortunately the money ran out before all this could be achieved, and only one of the windows was actually completed, the 'cat window' on the south side of the porch.
