Research summary

My research is concerned with the diversity on coral reefs, with the main focus on reef-associated taxa. Exploring the drivers of diversification of the tantalising diversity of reef-associated taxa is important for our understanding of coral reef biodiversity. This diversity is predominantly composed of invertebrates, many of which live in a variety of associations ranging from monospecific parasites through to niche-loose commensal relationships. The drivers of adaptive diversification in the marine environment can be unravelled by combining analytical methods from mathematical biology, based on evolutionary ecology research in the terrestrial realm, with worldwide distribution data and robust phylogeny reconstructions of selected reef taxa. As a model taxon I work on coral-dwelling gall crabs (Cryptochiridae), with forays into other invertebrate groups.
