From the outset the Oxford University Museum of Natural History has played an important role in the development of science and culture. It was here, only a few months after the Museum opened, that the famous evolutionary debate took place between Huxley and Wilberforce. At the core of the museum are the historical collections of zoological and geological specimens. Caring for these collections is our primary concern so that future generations can enjoy and learn from them. We are also committed to our education and outreach work and to maintaining our beautiful building. In all of this work we are reliant upon and extremely grateful to the many supporters of the museum, its visitors, other individuals, trusts, charitable foundations and corporations.
